Questions to ask before you compare two quotes
- Is there a setup fee? And what does it actually cover?
- What counts as a billable minute? Wrong numbers, hold time, per-call minimums.
- What is the exact overage rate?
- Is Spanish included, or an add-on — and is it available at night?
- Is it month-to-month, or a twelve-month term?
A break-even you can work out in a minute
Take the average value of a painting job you book. Divide the monthly price of the service by it. That is how many extra jobs a month it has to bring in to pay for itself. If your average job is worth more than $499, that is less than one job a month.
Then look at your missed calls and unreturned voicemails from a normal month and ask whether one of them would have become a job. That is a question only you can answer, and it is a better guide than any average we could quote.
When it isn't worth it
