How Much Does a Roofing Answering Service Cost? (2026)

Published September 21, 2026 · by David Kohlani, founder of ApexSmartAI

Answering services for contractors range from about $29 a month for a basic AI tool to more than $1,700 a month for a busy live-agent plan. For a roofing company, the headline price matters less than one question: what happens to the bill in the week after a storm?

The two pricing models

Human answering services bill by the minute or by the call. That works for a trade with steady call volume. Roofing is not steady: a single hail event can bring more calls in a few days than a normal month. Under per-minute billing, your most expensive week is the one where you are already busiest.

AI answering services generally charge a flat monthly price with a block of included minutes. A surge still uses minutes, but the price per minute does not change, and the overage rate is known in advance.

What a storm week does to each model

Take your own numbers, not a national average. Count the calls in a normal month and in your busiest storm week last year. A roof intake call — name, number, address, what they are seeing, whether water is coming in — typically runs two to three minutes.

  1. Multiply calls by minutes for a quiet month and for a storm month.
  2. Price both months under each quote, including overage.
  3. Add any setup fee, spread over twelve months.
  4. Add the Spanish line item if it is not included.

The per-minute plan often wins the quiet month. The flat plan usually wins the storm month. Which one is cheaper for you depends on how many storm months you have — and only your own call history can answer that.

Costs that don't show up in the headline

What ApexSmartAI costs

You keep your existing number. Your line forwards to the receptionist when you want it to, and you can switch the forwarding off at your own phone provider at any time.

The number that actually decides it

Divide the monthly cost by the value of one job you book. If your average job is worth more than $499, one extra job a month covers it. Then look at your missed calls from the last storm and ask honestly whether one of them would have booked with you. If you already answer nearly every call, you may not need a service at all — and it is better to know that before you sign up for anything.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a roofing answering service cost?

Published 2026 prices run from about $29 a month for basic AI tools to more than $1,700 a month for live-agent plans. ApexSmartAI is $499 a month plus a one-time $395 build, with 1,000 minutes included and 40¢ a minute after that.

Is per-minute or flat-rate better for a roofing company?

It depends on how uneven your call volume is. Per-minute pricing is often cheaper in quiet months and more expensive after a storm. Price both models against your own quiet month and your own storm month.

Does Spanish cost extra?

With several providers it does. ApexSmartAI includes English and Spanish at no extra cost.

Am I locked into a contract?

Not with ApexSmartAI — it is month-to-month. Ask any provider directly, because twelve-month terms are common in this category.
